CAHA Kickoff Game: Roughriders 5 Pikes Peak Miners 3

The Roughriders got off to a slow start on Saturday night against in-State rivals Pikes Peak Miners. The Miners came out hard and set the tempo early. Felix Jarry took at tripping minor at 7:26 of the 1st period for Rocky Mountain. While shorthanded the Roughriders changed momentum when Adam Durkee poke checked the puck away from the Miners defense and was off to the races for a breakaway opportunity and buried the puck giving the Roughriders a 1-0 lead. Thomas Jarman continued the scoring at 14:58 of the 1st. The Roughriders managed to pull to a 3-0 lead. The Miners began a comeback scoring their first goal at 8:54 of the 2nd. The Roughriders found themselves in trouble when they were assessed a 4 minute doubleminor. The Miners were able to close the gap and tie the game by getting two back to back Powerplay goals.

At the end of two periods the Roughriders and Miners were all tied up at 3 goals a piece. During the icemake between the second and third periods, Roughriders head coach, John Paris, Jr. rallied his troops and got things rolling again. The Roughriders hit the ice in the 3rd period with a new life and a new passion. Bigger hits and more energetic play showcased a strong 3rd period. Joey Marchese got the game winner for the Roughriders at 13:06 of the 3rd period and also got the insurance goal with 1 second left in the game.

Joakim Jutras got the start in net and was stellar, stopping 37 of 40 shots.
