NAPHL Showcase Blaine: Roughriders 6 Detroit Falcons 2

The Rocky Mountain Roughriders beat the Detroit Falcons early Sunday morning in Blaine, Minnesota with a final score of 6-2. The Roughriders found their much needed offense this morning by scoring 4 goals in the first period, equaling their tournament production for goals.

Collin Beibel got things started early for the Roughriders netting the first goal at 2:49 of the 1st period. It didn't take long for RJ Slovato to follow suit, burying his shot at 3:50 in the first. Defenseman Keegan McCarthy sent in a shot from just above the circles on the goalie and found paydirt for just the second Powerplay goal for the Roughriders this weekend. With time running out in the 1st, Thomas Jarman beat the Falcon's goalie Brophy on the shortside to wrap up the 4 goal first period.

RJ Solvato started the scoring off for the Roughriders again getting his second goal of the game at 2:39 into the 2nd period. Chase Matson got the Falcons on the board after a neutral zone turnover turned into one of the few odd-man rushes for the game. He made no mistake as he caught Jutras on the short side. Joekim Justras was otherwise spectacular in this game stopping 19 of 21 shots.

Heading into the third with a 5-2 lead, the Roughriders worked on cycling the puck and controlling the pace of play. Bobby Valdez put the Roughriders further ahead with a great rebound goal at 8:02 of the third period. The game was relatively penalty free in comparison to the other games of the weekend with the Falcons going to the box 5 times and the Roughriders 3 times.

The Roughriders finish the weekend 3-2-0. That is a wrap from Blaine, Minnesota as the Roughriders are off to San Jose, California in mid-October.
