Roughriders: Colorado Springs or BUST!

The Roughriders U16 AAA team headed to the World Arena in Colorado Springs on Sunday morning for a 3:30pm rematch with the Pikes Peak Miners. Dodging Rockies game and Broncos game traffic was interesting.

Upon arrival at the World Arena, the Roughriders went through their normal pregame routine and suited up for the game. By 3:45 and the boys still were not on the ice, it became apparent something wasn't right. Eventually it was announced that there had been a scheduling mixup and there were no referees and the game was canceled. Good thing it was a nice day for a drive! Stay tuned for a rescheduling of this game.

Roughriders U16 Square off on CAHA Rivals

The Roughriders U16 AAA team faces off against in state rivals Pikes Peak Miners with two games on tap. First game is the CAHA season opener at home on Saturday, September 25th at 6:30pm on the Promenade Red Rink. Fans Go Crazy for the Boys of Fall!

I ran across a video today that I feel compelled to share with the Roughrider team. We all at some point find ourselves living vicariously through our kids. We all want the best for them. We all want them to be the best that they can be. And at some point we desperately miss the thrill of competing ourselves. We get so focused on tomorrow that we can forget about living today. Today is the day our boys will miss the most. These are the best of times...for the Boys of Fall.

NAPHL Showcase Blaine: Roughriders 6 Detroit Falcons 2

The Rocky Mountain Roughriders beat the Detroit Falcons early Sunday morning in Blaine, Minnesota with a final score of 6-2. The Roughriders found their much needed offense this morning by scoring 4 goals in the first period, equaling their tournament production for goals.

Collin Beibel got things started early for the Roughriders netting the first goal at 2:49 of the 1st period. It didn't take long for RJ Slovato to follow suit, burying his shot at 3:50 in the first. Defenseman Keegan McCarthy sent in a shot from just above the circles on the goalie and found paydirt for just the second Powerplay goal for the Roughriders this weekend. With time running out in the 1st, Thomas Jarman beat the Falcon's goalie Brophy on the shortside to wrap up the 4 goal first period.

RJ Solvato started the scoring off for the Roughriders again getting his second goal of the game at 2:39 into the 2nd period. Chase Matson got the Falcons on the board after a neutral zone turnover turned into one of the few odd-man rushes for the game. He made no mistake as he caught Jutras on the short side. Joekim Justras was otherwise spectacular in this game stopping 19 of 21 shots.

Heading into the third with a 5-2 lead, the Roughriders worked on cycling the puck and controlling the pace of play. Bobby Valdez put the Roughriders further ahead with a great rebound goal at 8:02 of the third period. The game was relatively penalty free in comparison to the other games of the weekend with the Falcons going to the box 5 times and the Roughriders 3 times.

The Roughriders finish the weekend 3-2-0. That is a wrap from Blaine, Minnesota as the Roughriders are off to San Jose, California in mid-October.

The Roughriders fell to the Motor City Metal Jackets 0-3 on Saturday afternoon in Blaine, Minnesota. The fourth game of the NAPHL Showcase had the 2-1-0 Roughriders squaring off against the 0-0-3 Motor City Metal Jackets. The Metal Jackets had lost all three of their games in Overtime Shootouts coming in to this game. The Roughriders weren't able to respond before intermission, which was taken at the 8:30 mark of the second period.

After the intermission break and fresh ice make the Roughriders again tried to get some momentum, but penalties from both teams killed any chance at a rally. The Roughriders managed only 8 shots in the game and have netted 3 goals in 4 games while allowing 7 goals against over the same 4 games while at the Showcase. Penalties were once again a big factor in this game and prevented any continuity from the offense. Shots in the game favored the Metal Jackets 19-8.
